  • Low angle Wide shot
  • Frontal MCU (soft background)
  • Frontal MS (soft background)
  • Extreme Close-Up shot
  • Side angle MS (soft background)
  • ¾ angling MCU shot (with blurry/soft foreground)
  • Close-Up shot
  • Eye-Level Medium-Wide shot
Fortunately, I was going to the beach that day so I decided to shoot my brother while the sun was setting. And here's the final outcome:

Process

1) Shooting

I had the honor to become the Assistant Director together with Safanah. Whose job is to convey the director's (Esther was the director) guide and order to the crew, also, assistant directors are the ones who lead the crew to the shooting place and do the most fun thing: holding the clapperboard. Basically, we are responsible for helping the director and making sure the crew understands the director. So we often became communicators. It was a very fun experience.

2) Editing

I used PremierePro to create the trailer. There are 7 scenes in total and I need to synchronize them with their audio. I also applied the background music and did a bit of color grading.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 3:

Specific Feedback
(30-seconds MV) Mr. Martin said my MV was nice and he liked how I explored the Premiere Po and used many effects. He expected all students to explore Premiere pro and had fun as well. Also, he said the shooting angle are all correct.

REFLECTION

Experience
I had fun every time I had a shooting assignment. It felt good to be able to hold a camera and finally come to campus to do the shooting. I finally felt like a real design student hahaha. Mr. Martin taught everything in detail, he taught us about using the camera, the angles, lighting, and other components we need to know. I felt like this project and exercises are fun, but at the same time, we were also taught to be professionals.

Observation
I observed that being on a film crew is a serious and difficult task that requires planning, leadership, systematic work, time management, and communication skill. Having a design skill alone is not enough at all, it's far from being enough. I've always wanted to try being a film director, but I got the job as an assistant director which turned out to be more difficult. As an assistant director, I experience being the boss and also the assistant. I have to be able to control the team and became the communicator between the boss and the team, but at the same time, I have to always obey the director, the experience was super challenging and interesting. While for other projects, I observed that shooting angles that we see in movies are carefully crafted ad composed. By learning all the angles and trying it out, I now quite understand how to make a film more interesting and not boring.

Findings
I found that I would truly enjoy being in a movie crew, this might be on my dream list. I like working in a team and applying both my design skill and communication skill. Thank you Mr. Martin for showing us how a film crew works and patiently helping us throughout the process. I will definitely remember this project for a long time.
