INSTRUCTION

PROJECT 2: VISUAL DESIGN PUBLICATION

Instruction

1) TURN YOUR DISSERTATION INTO e-BOOK

As mentioned, when submitting your 2nd Assignment (Final Dissertation with the complete publication visual design), you must create an e-book with your PDF. Here is a step-by-step guide on converting your dissertation design (in pdf) into a flipbook (refer to the link below).

Please note: You do not need to purchase the software for personal use. In the online FlipHTML5, the page limit of FlipHTML5 is no more than 500 pages, while the size is no more than 150 Mb. If your design pdf work is massive, please compress your pdf file (link provided below) first before you convert it into an e-book.

2) TURNITIN SUBMISSION REPORT COPY

Upload your PDF of the Final Dissertation with the TURNITIN index similarity report (Updated after you have revised the Draft Dissertation) that you have uploaded to TURNITIN in myTIMeS. As mentioned, please check before uploading them since it will be only one time, the index similarities can be less than 15%, and each indication can be less than 5%.

Moodboard

Before I designed the visual publication in Adobe InDesign, I made this moodboard to show Dr. Hayati the design concept.  I wanted to apply the theory I have concluded in the dissertation about UI/UX design for elderly users. So, I use colorful interface (yellow and blue radiates calmness and fun to prevent elderly people from feeling stressed). I also used sans-serif font so it looks clean and isn't confusing.

Design Process

I did all the illustration in Adobe Illustrator by using the color palette from the moodboard. And then I proceed to design in Adobe InDesign. I enjoyed this process so much because I could apply the knowledge that I have gained from researching about app design for elderly in this publication.

I kept the cover simple but informative. It shows the elderly people and the COVID-19 app.

Final Dissertation & Turnitin Report PDF

After revising my dissertation, I submitted it to Turnitin portal that Dr. hayati provided. Waiting for the similarity number to show up was definitely a stressful moment for me. But turns out I got 10% similarity percentage which means I still meet the criteria.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 9:

Specific Feedback
  • Try finding COVID-19 font (decorative for titles)

  • Find a suitable font for elderly

  • Use real COVID-19 cartoon symbol

  • The layout design is freeflow, so you can combine double and single column in different pages.

General Feedback

  • See “Mixed Research Creswell” as a reference for your visual publication design

  • Emphasize the title on Page 2, no page number

  • You better have 3-4 pages before your reach your acknowledgment

  • Use roman number for the beginning.

  • You can use AI for illustrating but don’t put text in it. Use Indesign.

WEEK 10:

General Feedback
  • After Cover Page, don’t jump straight to acknowledgement. There are several pages first to engage with the reader and inform what the book is about.

  • The margin is up to you

WEEK 11:

General Feedback
  • Separate the numbering of Table & Figure, they are different. Follow the section number onlly, not the sub sections.
  • Minimum word count: 7000 (exclude the appendices & datas)
  • Put all your research design should be added to appendices and don’t forget to mention it in Section 3.
  • Refer in-text citation to the instrument in Page 10 of MIB.
  • Submit your final dissertation to turnitin (deadline week 15)
  • Reflection Report (week 15)
  • Publication Design (week 14 )
