REFLECTION

Experience
When I first started this semester, I had very little knowledge about typography, so these are all very new to me. I learned many things from this Typography class, including how to make a professional editorial layout, making my own font (this one is very cool), composing typographic sticker, etc. It was quite overwhelming, especially when I used Adobe Illustrator and InDesign for the first time. That's when I realized how complicated and serious typography is in the design industry. I learned how small things like kerning, alignments, overshoots will affect the whole design. I really pushed myself throughout this 14 weeks, I watched every lecture video over and over again, took notes, revised my work in order to produce good outcomes. Overall, it was a very challenging class but I feel very excited now, realizing that I managed to complete all my work.

Observations
When it comes to Typography, I couldn't agree more with this phrase: 'the devil is in the details'. I'm the type of person who doesn't really pay attention to details, however, this module really made me try to be more detailed and discipline in my work. And I noticed how I could do better in each project, thanks to the feedbacks Mr. Vinod gave me. One more thing that was quite difficult for me was coming up with new ideas, I found that it always took me too long compared to other students. However, Mr. Vinod always encouraged us to do a visual research, and that's when I realized that I could found design ideas faster.

Findings
Turns out, typography can be found anywhere and in so many design forms. It plays a more important role than I thought it does. Through this module, I found that by understanding the disciplines of typography and how the softwares work I could improve my overall design skill. And as I'm a not actually a very detailed person, I found out that it's not impossible for me to pay more attention to small things after all, If I could do it for these projects, then I could also apply it for other projects. Especially when I compose posters and logos in the future, I got to know which type is really typographically good and balanced. Now, after I found out about all the hardwork, history and discipline behind typography, I became more appreciative of this art form.
